SCC may resume mining operations upon compliance of certain conditions

The suspension order against Semirara Mining and Power Corp (SCC) may be lifted upon SCC’s full compliance to additional safety measures recommended by Energy department. The investigation committee handling the case has reportedly completed its report and has informed the company of its finding and safety recommendations which included the hiring of technical experts as regular employees, rather than as mere consultants.

The DOE has also recommended that SCC strictly submit an annual work plan for the mine. The DOE said the suspension order could be lifted within the year for as long as the company fully complies with the requirements. Mining operations have been suspended for almost two months now since the accident in the Panian pit last 17 July which left nine workers dead. The investigation committee found weather was to be blamed for the mine’s collapse. - WealthSec
