Power Update: SCC’s Calaca plant expansion moved to end 2Q15, TA-AC greenfield power plant remains on track

Energy secretary Carlos Jericho Petilla, quoted by the press, said that the commercial operations of the 2x150 MW coal-fired power plant expansion of Semirara Mining Corp (SCC) subsidiary Southwest Luzon Power Generation (SLPGC) has been moved to June 2015. The power plant was originally targeted to start operations in December 2014 but later moved to March 2015 and now June 2015.

No specific reason for the delay was given. The Energy department was counting on the commercial operations of SLPGC in March to provide additional power to address next year’s power shortage. Petilla, however, added that the first unit of the MW 2x135MW Puting Bato coal-fired power plant of

South Luzon Thermal Energy Corp’s (SLTEC) remains on track and is expected to be operational by end-2014. SLTEC is a jv between Ayala Corp (AC, Buy) and Trans-Asia Oil and Energy Development Corp (TA). - WealthSec
