EDC’s second 55-MW unit already producing power

The second 55-MW unit of Energy Development Corp’s (EDC) 130-MW Bacon-Manito (BacMan) geothermal power plant appears to be already running. Data from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) show that Unit 2 started offering power offering power at 10am yesterday, ramping this up to 55 MW by 7pm. The unit went on a planned outage following the installation of brand new Toshiba steam turbine rotor unit and diaphragms

Our take: It is still premature to assess the success of BacMan’s initial operations but we view this development positively. This marks the start of Unit 2’s reliability runs, which we expect would last for 30-days. - WealthSec
